Yogurt Cups

August 27, 2007 by Lauren 12 Comments

I’ll admit it, I’m a tree hugger at heart.  I collect stuff for recycling (though it sits around for months before we take it in), I try to be responsible in what I buy so it won’t make a lot of needless waste, and I watch lots and lots of t.v. shows about taking care of our planet.  I’ve needed a new toothbrush for quite a while, and I was perusing the many, many choices that our Wal-Mart has to offer.  (Wal-mart’s another place that gets me.  I use the self-checkout because the regular checkers only put two things in a bag, so you leave with a zillion bags.)  Do I buy cheap, as is my custom, or gadget-y?  Lloyd has an electric toothbrush that I’m jealous of, but I don’t want to get another of those expensive things. Then this caught my eye:

Preserve your teeth!

It’s a toothbrush made of recycled yogurt cups!  The package has air holes so you can use it as a travel case, and when it gets too old, you can send it back to the company (postage paid!) and they’ll recycle it again!  It’s fun to brush with because it has such a weird angle to the handle, and I highly recommend it.

Once when I was having a REALLY bad day, I got yelled at by a 16 year old checker while I was self-checking out at Weiss … The belt kept stopping … and she came over & said very firmly, “You can’t THROW your items on the belt, you have to place them,” and she gave me a demonstration. That helped my mood.
As soon as she walked away, I continued to throw my items on the belt.

So you’re brushing your teeth with yogurt cups? That gives me the jibblies for more than one reason.

Are jibblies like heebie jeebies? Because I have those just thinking about brushing my teeth with old yogurt cups.

You are aware that almost anything you can think of has had contact with dirt, animals, or yogurt at one point in it’s history, right?

Does the toothbrush have a residual flavor? If I would ever get one (which probably is never, especially if it costs more), I want it to taste like Raspberry. Mmmm….Raspberry yogurt. By the way, did it cost a lot more than a regular toothbrush?

I wondered the same thing about the cost of such a recycled toothbrush…does it cost more?

It cost a little less than the Oral B, which is what I usually get, and it tastes a little rancid.

        Not! 🙂

Ok, I’ve been lurking around here long enough without leaving a comment… so toothbrushes it is!!
I use this one -- no strawberry yogurt cups, You just replace the heads and reuse the handle, so less plastic in the trash.
